In what is being seen as a significant move, it is heard that the Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to introduce a two month foundation course for all the students taking MBBS program. As part of that, students would be taught on subjects like impact of high medical bills on patients, cost of treatments and healthcare financing. The decision also involves medicos to learn sociology, ethics etc. This would come in effect from 2012 onwards. The experts said that most of the medicos are unaware of the cost and impact on the patients when they subscribe a particular treatment or medical prescription, hence this initiative.
