West Bengal colleges face deaffiliation for no NAAC approval

Reports state that at least 172 educational institutes in West Bengal may drop affiliation and the fund backing from the University Grants Commission because they've never applied for the NAAC certification.

This is going to be mandatory from the year 2017. The UGC said that any institute or university that doesn't have the NAAC accreditation in the present five-year cycle would be de-affiliated.

A lot of colleges in Bengal haven't cared to renew their accreditation. In a desperate attempt to catch up with other states, Bengal government is reportedly offering financial aid of up to 2 crore rupees to colleges with NAAC A or B rating.
