Story: Set on the backdrop of Hyderabad, Bobby (vidya) lives in a middle class family and while her parents (rajendra gupta, supriya pathak) are keen to get her married, Bobby is keen to pursue her passion ie becoming a detective. She tries out a job at a detective agency but it doesn’t work so she sets up her own company. Things change when one man named Anees Khan (Kiran kumar) approaches her to find out few missing persons. What is meant to be a simple case becomes a major mystery. What unfolds forms the rest.
Presentation: The director has come up with an interesting storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative could have been better. The dialogues were witty at places. The script was thoughtful but the screenplay lacked the punch. The background score was melodious but songs can be ignored. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Editing was weak during econd half. Costumes were well designed to suit the backdrop while the art department was excellent. Makeup department was also very good. Vidya Balan did her best to shoulder the film throughout and though no complaints on her, it was not enough. Ali Fazal was competent and made his presence felt. Rajendra Gupta was superb while Kiran Kumar was a revelation. Supriya Pathak, Tanvi Azmi were not used well. Prasad Barve was entertaining.
Conclusion: It is not often that one gets to see detective thrillers and that too with an actress leading from the front so that’s what is the interesting bit here. However, it takes good grip over the script and screenplay to make it appealing to the audience. In this film, the first half goes about smoothly with some elements of comedy and drama. The interval bang was promising but it is the second half where things go wrong. The writing has been the spoilsport and there were few forced sequences and unwanted tracks. Overall, this could have been a good film if the trimmings were made. At the box office, this might have heavy openings but success run is doubtful.
