Jab Tak Hai Jaan Bollywood Movie Review

Story :

A triangular love story, the tale begins with Major Samar Anand (SRK) working with the Indian army as a bomb disposal expert. He has an excellent record in his job. On the other hand there is Akira (anushka) who wants to come up with a documentary and she chooses Samar’s life for that. As she starts filming her documentary, Akira comes across a diary of Samar which reveals his past, an emotionally intense love story with Meera (katrina), a rich businesswoman in London. Despite being deeply in love with Samar, she leaves him. Meanwhile, Akira’s respect for Samar grows and she starts falling in love with him. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Hindi Cinema Review

Presentation :

The director has come up with a predictable storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was very stretched.  The dialogues were poetic, the script was decent and the screenplay was adequate. Background score was high quality and two songs were melodious.  Cinematography was excellent. Editing was disappointing. Costumes were trendy and stylish while the art department was apt. Shahrukh Khan has come up with a commendable performance and he strikes. Katrina Kaif is drop dead beautiful but she underplayed her role. Anushka Sharma is a livewire and she creates a strong impression. Rishi Kapoor was effective, Anupam Kher made his presence felt, Neetu Kapoor was natural. The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion :

The film is more like a tribute to the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra as this was his last. While the first half goes about smoothly with few elements of comedy, romance, songs it is the second half which gets into the emotional angle. The film would have been excellent had the length been reduced. Nearly thirty minutes of the film was not required. Moreover, few scenes didn’t have that fizz in them. Overall, this is a film which must be watched purely for the performances and the respect for Yash Ji as a filmmaker.  At the box office, this will definitely be a hit but it may not be a blockbuster.

Bharatstudent Verdict : Romantic, conventional, touching but very dragging
