Shobha De an eminent Indian writer, columnist and novelist. She is India’s top-selling authors through her bold and highly inimitable style that spoke a new language. She is well-known for writing erotic literature. She is most often a controversial queen through her straightforward writings and opinions.

De is considered as the top Opinion Shaper and credited with several awards for her journalistic contributions. She emerged as a Publisher with her latest book titled 'Shobhaa at Sixty' by her own imprint Penguin Books, titled The Shobha De Book. De is on Reader's Digest list of 'India Most Trusted People', DNA Newspaper '50 most powerful Women in India', and Hi Blitz 'India 50 Most Beautiful' list.

After being successful as a Model, she became the first editor of gossipy magazine's Stardust, Society and Celebrity. Her racy and raunchy columns explore on socialite life and celebrity lifestyles in Mumbai. Most of her books have topped the charts and created records. Her books are best sellers in several languages, including French, English, Punjabi, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi. Her book ‘Superstar India’ sold over 100,000 copies in India during its first year creating a new record.

She has been held responsible for accelerating the pace and bringing about a sexual revolution through her writings in the column ‘The Sexes’ of the magazine ‘The Week’. Four of her titles, namely, Socialite Evenings, Starry Nights, Sultry Days, and Second Thoughts are course material in the University of London. Also, she is credited with origin to ‘Hinglish’, a heady, irreverent mix of Hindi and English.

Shobha was born in a Maharastrian Brahmin family in Mumbai, India. She graduated in Psychology from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai and completed her schooling from Queen Mary School, Mumbai. In 1984, she got married to Dilip De a shipping tycoon and business magnate. The couple has two children’s Arundhati and Anandita.
