Raksha Tollywood Movie Review

A horror tale, the story begins with Rajeev (Jagapathi Babu) who owns a construction company and has a happy family life with his wife Arti (Kalyani), Raksha (baby Neha), Rahul (master Athulith) and his mother (Radhakumari). Rajeev is an atheist by nature and believes in hardwork so when a rock structure of Lord Ganesh is revealed and they want to come up with a temple, he refuses to budge. Meanwhile, Rajeev's close associate Vinay (Subbaraju) tells Rajeev that his close friend Venu (Rajeev Kanakala) and his wife Madhu (Satya Krishnan) have been cheating him in business and have eaten a lot of money. Enraged by this, he lashes out at both of them in a party and fires them in front of everyone. Days pass by but soon things begin to change as weird things happen at Rajeev's place, even the new replacement for Venu and Madhu gets killed in a freak accident. Things begin to change at home as Raksha starts behaving strangely and soon she is taken to a doctor and then to a psychiatrist who diagnose her with a psychological disorder. However, Rajeev's mother voices out that it is due to black magic and the incident that happens few days before. What is that incident? How does Rajeev solve Raksha's problem? Is it a mental disorder or is there something more than that? All this forms the rest of the story.

Raksha Telugu Cinema Review

The director has come out with a known story line but then the treatment and the backdrop is different, the presentation has been good but the narrative was not captivating enough. A major credit goes to the music and camera departments for delivering an excellent tune and picture but the editing could have been better, the script was not that strong and the screenplay was well executed but the dialogues could have added more punch. Jagapati Babu has come up with good performance and has a good screen presence. Kalyani was effective but did not have much to her role, the real credit goes to Neha for a superb performance, Subbaraju portrayed positive role but confused the audience with his mixed expressions, Rajeev Kanakala was about average, Pradeep Rawath was excellent and Satya Krishnan did her bit with the perfect elements of evil. The others did their bit with the required standard and contributed well in terms of quality and performance.

Raksha Filem Review

The concept of belief and non belief was shown clearly but then the plot lacked enough gravity to keep the audience in a suspense mode. While the first half goes about with some imaginative scenes, it is the second half which actually picks up the momentum and the climax has been quite gripping though everything is known. The technical values of the film are quite good which has been Varma's forte but then it did not have the required dose of fear factor that can give the viewer few sleepless nights. Commercially, the film might just cross the profit mark but a hit is ruled out.

Bharatstudent Verdict: Not very scary but different...
