Story: If you are expecting a superb story and marvelous film, then please stay at home. 'Okka Magadu' is one absolute mess!! The story revolves around Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy (Balakrishna) in the Venkatapuram village and he is treated as more than god by the villagers. In comes a TV crew led by a beautiful reporter (Priyanka Kothari) who wants to interview Venkata Swamy for all his good deeds. The house is headed by Baby (Simran), the old lady of the house and also the grandmother of Venkata Swamy. What follows is a tale of some ridiculous comedy scenes and the reporter falls for the hero. Meanwhile, Venkata Swamy gets into a scuffle with none other than the Chief Minister of the state for having helped his son get married to his girlfriend. On the other side, there are incidents of dubious killings of corrupt police officers and Doctors and CBI enters the scene to investigate the crime. They come to a conclusion that it is done by one man who leaves a sign of 'OM'. Their investigation gets them to the house of Venkata Swamy and when he is arrested, the suspense is revealed when Raghupathi Raja Ram (Balakrishna Senior) arrives to clarify the confusion and escapes. The CBI starts further digging and realize that there is a link between Venkata Swamy and Raja Ram and when they approach the house once again, history is given by Baby who tells them the greatness of Raja Ram and his freedom struggle during the 1940s. Simultaneously, the fight between the CM and the hero's family heightens and in this process the CM's daughter (Anushka ) falls for Venkata Swamy. What follows is a series of anti villain drives using death as punishment A K A 'Bharateeyudu' style and how Raja Ram exposes the misdeeds of the CM and what happens in the end forms the rest of the story. |
Presentation: Director YVS seems to have lost total basics when it comes to making the film. What was meant to be a prestigious venture hosting Balakrishna to the top has further degraded his rating with some poor subject, an immature presentation, weak script, irritating narration and the list goes on. The only saving grace to the movie is some steamy exposure done by both Anushka and Priyanka to satisfy the mass audience backed by some really interesting music and songs. A scene where Priyanka straddles Balakrishna and the dialogues that follow are total embarrassment for a star of that status. While the first half was an absolute mess with childish comedy and illogical sequences, the second half went to become a cheap imitation of 'Bharateeyudu' along with the Hollywood hit 'The Patriot' starring Mel Gibson. The camera was poor as it could not hide the old make ups for Simran and Balakrishna which looked like a lump of wax put on their face. Coming to the cast, one really wonders why Balakrishna had to take up this role and how was he convinced that this could give him a hit. With the way the film was preceding, any person with experience would have realized that the ship is sinking. Anyways, he did his best to ensure he carries the film and few of his dances in songs are appreciated. His one liner though not very dynamic are many. Anushka and Priyanka did justice to their roles as glam dolls only. Ashutosh Rana as the Chief Minister was grossly underutilized. Simran was not necessary if patriotism was the issue there. Other departments require no mentioning here. |
Conclusion: A thoughtful subject handled very poorly without any sense of direction to where it is heading or what it is trying to convey to the audience. Most of them were seen leaving before the film ended which is an absolute shocker for a Balakrishna movie. The enthusiasm of the fans fizzled out barely in 15 minutes time the movie started. The film lacked grip and substance at any point and there is nothing worth taking home except a splitting headache. Even the mass audience felt like tramps with some really illogical scenes and some ridiculous dialogues. The list of defects is unending. The audio might do decently on the stands but the movie has nothing in it to take it to more than two weeks if watched correctly.
Bharatstudent verdict: It may not have satisfied the expectations of the fans but certainly worth praise an effort by Balaiah. |
