Vilai Kollywood Movie Review

A thoughtful tale, the story begins in the Melur village and here live the brother-sister duo of Nandhu (barani) and Vandhana (reethu). They keep quarelling and so their father decides to get Vandhana married. However, Nandhu wants her to study as she is very good at it. Finally, the duo comes to Chennai. The story takes a turn when Vandhana gets kidnapped by a call taxi driver and Nandhu begins his search. He takes the help of ACP Shanmugavel (saravanan) who has a disturbed past himself. Together, they manage to reach the dreaded Mirchi Maya (fatima) who runs a brothel house in Andhra Pradesh and locate Vandhana. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Vilai Tamil Cinema Review

The director has come up with a thought provoking storyline but then he was unable to narrate it effectively to have the grip while the presentation was alright. The dialogues were sensible, the script was okay, the screenplay had few hiccups. Background score was good, songs were not upto the mark. Cinematography was impressive in few places. Editing was amateur, costumes were okay and art department was natural. Barani does his bit well and proves apt to the role, Reethu looks ravishingly seductive and her performance was also neat, Udhayathara was appealing, Saravanan gives power packed performance, he reminds us of Vijaykanth, Fatima was apt, Devaraj was decent, Chandru was casual, Amarasigamani was average.

Vilai Filem Review
The film deals with a sensitive subject and though that was gripping, the makers should have worked on the script and come up with a tighter presentation. While the first half is a bit on the lighter side, the second half gets quite serious. There were few moments which required depth but turn out to be sloppy. Overall, the film is good in parts and though it failed to create the impact, the makers must be appreciated for the theme they have chosen. This will require strong publicity for success at the box office.
Bharatstudent Verdict : Appealing but could have been better
