Vettai Kollywood Movie Review

Story: A typical masala tale, the story is set on the backdrop of a village and it is about two brothers Gurumurthy (maddy) and Thirumurthy (arya). While Guru is more soft spoken, Thiru is bold and daring. The demise of their father who is a cop lands the job in Guru’s lap who takes it reluctantly. But Thiru assures him support and in no time, Guru becomes famous. On the other hand, he marries Vasanthi (sameera) and her sister Jayanthi (amala) starts liking Thiru. Trouble comes in the form of Annachi (ashutosh rana) who decides to put a check to Guru. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with a regular storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was the highlight. The dialogues were good at places, the script was written with moderate appeal and screenplay was quick. Background score was good and three songs were impressive. Cinematography was the best. Editing was upto the mark. Costumes were natural while the art department was appealing. Madhavan fits into the role easily and does his bit well. Arya was energetic and keeps the momentum on. Sameera Reddy was sensuous while Amala Paul gave good visual feast. Ashutosh Rana was menacing enough. The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion: Right from the word go, the film happens to be a typical mass masala entertainer which follows a formula. So, it is natural that cinematic liberties would be taken. While the first half goes on a lighter mode with the regular elements of action, romance and songs, the second half gets a bit serious and has that slight dose of melodrama. Overall, this is a film which is meant for the commercial audience so it will work well with the B, C centre audience. At the box office, this would be an above average grosser.
Bharatstudent verdict: Pure commercial entertainer
