Vaagai Sooda Vaa Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
A tale with a message, the story is set on the backdrop of the 1960s and a remote village. Here lives Veluthambi (vimal) who hails from Pudukottai. His father is Annamalai (bhagyaraj) and his dream is to see his son get a government job. As part of that, he advises Velu to go to another village and teach kids who work in a brick kiln. Velu goes there and as expected, the kids and their parents don't receive him well. Eventually, they agree but trouble comes in the form of the owner JP (ponvannan). Also, Velu falls in love with Madhi (iniya). What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a different storyline and while the presentation was neat, the narrative was not that strong. The dialogues were decent and they were good at places. The script was moderate and the screenplay was just alright. Background score was good and two songs were hummable. Cinematography captured the locales well. Editing was regular. Costumes were okay for few while the art department was rich and impressive. Vimal came with a natural performance and shines in comical sequences. Iniya is a show stealer with her energy and naughty looks. Bhagyaraj was matured. Ponvannan was menacing. Thambi Ramaiah was neat.

Conclusion:
The film gains interest given the backdrop and good efforts were made to give that feel. While the first half goes about with the lighter elements of romance, comedy and songs, the second half gets serious and has few challenging twists. Overall, this is a film which is different in its making and taking. However, it is due to the plot the film has got a dry appeal and is more like a documentary. At the box office, this will be an average grosser but it will get critical acclaim.
