Rummy Kollywood Movie Review
Story:
A predictable tale set on the backdrop of 80s in Madurai, the story is about Sakthi (prabhakar) and Joseph (vijay sethupathi) who are roommates and good buddies. Sakthi falls in love with Meenakshi (gayathrie) while Joseph falls in love with Meenakshi’s cousin Sorna (aishwarya). But Sorna’s father is a village head who has got a large group of men ready to kill. He hates love stories and suspects something fishy between Sakthi and Meenakshi. But before that happens, Sorna elopes with Joseph. What happens from there forms the rest.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a routine storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was good in parts. The dialogues were clever. The script was average and the screenplay was not gripping. The background score was melodious but songs were not that great. Cinematography was efficient. Editing could have been better in the first half. Costumes were well designed to suit the nativity and backdrop while the art department was majestic. Inigo Prabhakar carried out his role with confidence but he must improve on emotional sequences, Vijay Sethupathi was good and made his presence felt, Gayathrie was apt with her expressions while Aishwarya is not only pretty but also a good performer. Soori gave his share of laughs. Others did their bit as required.

Conclusion:
Love stories facing problems due to caste reason is a common system which is still prevailing in society. While the director has taken the pains to set it in a 80s backdrop and did a good job with it, he should have been careful in bringing some variety and entertainment to it. The first half is sober with the routine love building up between two pairs. The second half is predictable with the violence and chasing but the energy was good. The climax would get mixed reactions. Overall, this is a film which had the potential to be better but was not so. At the box office, it would be a below average treat.
