Pirivom Santhipom Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
Sneha plays Sala (short for Visalakshi) who has grown up as a single child in a big family. All goes well when she enters into an arranged marriage with Natesan (Cheran) who belongs to a joint family. As is the customary Chettiar family, Sala thrives in her in-laws place where the hoard of relatives is in similarity to the family she grew up in and she makes it a point to do whatever she can to have one nice happy joint family. Natessan however is tired of living in this setup and eagerly takes up a transfer along with promotion so that he can spend time with his wife. Trouble begins when Sala starts feeling lonely after moving away from the joint family. She has nobody to speak to and longs for company and conversation with people other than her husband. This is soon realized by the husband and he decides to take the help of the local doctor (Jayaram) who not only tries to bring her out of the syndrome but also brings about a connection between the husband and wife on their emotional likes and dislikes. How does Natesan make things alright for Sala with the help of the doctor forms the rest of the story.

Pirivom Santhipom Tamil Cinema Review

Presentation:
The movie is a refreshing change from the regular masala flicks. It is well crafted by Pazhaniappan, his story line focuses on an aspect of a newly married girl's life but the treatment makes the film click. The film is for a mature audience who will find the sensitive portrayal by its female protagonist both credible and touching. The contrast between living in a joint and nuclear family is well portrayed and director has managed to capture the subtle changes in Sala as loneliness creeps in her life.

Sneha delivers a commendable performance and towers over Cheran. The cinematography is average but the Art direction leaves a lot to be desired. Vidyasagar, the music director, has done a master's job and the music blends well with storyline and the picturesque locations.

Conclusion:
Pirivom Santhipom is one of the better releases of this festival season. It is an excellent family entertainer without being unnecessarily over dramatic. The movie has stressed a lot on focusing the Chettiar tradition to a finer detail such as their houses, the dialect and their basic approach. Though it is not forming a judgement on whether nuclear family is good or a joint family is ideal, it has shown the importance of a clear heart to heart understanding which is very essential for any husband and wife. With the right ingredients for the story, the film has the ability to get on for a minimum of 4 weeks and a very high chance of scoring a hit.

Bharatstudent verdict : Go for this movie if you like wholesome family entertainer. Strongly recommended.
