Murattu Kaalai Kollywood Movie Review

Story:  A remake tale, the story is about Kalaiyan (sundar) who is the bravest in his village and known for his amazing bull fighting skills. His whole life revolves around his four brothers. In the neighbouring village lives Varadarajan (suman) a rich zamindar who lives a lavish lifestyle. His sister (sindhu) falls for Kalaiyaan. Varadarajan has got a henchman Saroja (vivekh), a transgender. Varadarajan’s eyes falls on Poovarasi (sneha) but she escapes from him and takes refuge in Kalaiyan’s home. As expected, Kalaiyan falls in love with Poovarasi and this leads him to a clash with Varadarajan. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Murattu Kaalai Tamil Cinema Review

Presentation:  The director has come up with a remake storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was not that great. The dialogues were regular, the script was okay and the screenplay was adequate. Background score was good and three songs were worth humming. Cinematography was impressive. Editing was upto the mark. Costumes were rustic while the art department was filled with nativity. Sundar C shoulders the entire movie with good conviction and performs well. Sneha looks sensuous and homely and did her bit as required. Suman was good with negative shades. Sindhu Tolani sizzles in a wet song and is brief. Vivek was different. The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion: The film happens to be the remake of the film that came in the 80s and had superstar Rajnikanth. So it is obvious that this is no match to the original. However, the team has put efforts to bring some appeal. While the first half goes about with few fight sequences, comedy and routine romance, the second half gets into the real plot and the commercial hero versus villain clash. Overall, this should not be compared with the original but has few elements that will appeal to the B, C centre audience. At the box office, this could be an average grosser.
