Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu Kollywood Movie Review

Set in the backdrop of a village, the story is about Muniyandi (Bharath) who happens to be the darling son of Muthumani (Ponvannan) and he is a happy go lucky college going student. However, he has a slight issue, his father is so overprotective about him that he takes care of everything for Muniyandi right from transport to college and including the kind of dress he must wear. The influence of Muthumani is so strong on Muniyandi that he gets suffocated by his father but then remains to be quiet since he knows the reason for his father's intensity, apparently his brother's death is what makes him so concerned. Life takes a turn for Muniyandi when he meets Madhumita (Poorna) in the college and falls in love with her. But then she happens to be the daughter of Ramayya (L Raja) who is the 'be-all and do-all' for the village and he is the head for all decisions. So much so that even Muthumani regards him a lot. The topic of love between Muniyandi-Madhumita reaches Ramayya's ear and the reactions are expected. However, when Muniyandi goes to Madhumita for taking a decision, the smart girl just backs off and takes her father's side. Enraged and shattered by her act, Muniyandi gets into frenzy and beats her in front of the public, he also sets fire to the coconut grove of Ramayya. Not stopping at that, he decides to take vengeance on her and bring her down to the ground. This is seen as an opportunity by Ramayya's enemies who provoke Muniyandi to stand up in the college elections. What follows is a tale of revenge, tit for tat strategy until Muniyandi realizes that there is a very startling truth behind Madhumita's behaviour. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu Tamil Cinema Review

The director has once again proved his mettle by taking out a different subject unlike his earlier flicks. His presentation was good but the narrative was lengthy. Though the camerawork provided some good scenic locales, it was the editing, screenplay which failed to live up to the standards. The music is somewhat melodious and there are few tunes which can be taken home. The script had few loose ends but it is the suspense element which kept things going. Bharath has come with a good performance and after his earlier movie, this has shown a more emotional and intense actor in him. Poorna lived upto her expectations and gave a delectable performance. Vadivelu managed to gather few laughs with his characteristics while the senior stars like Raja and Ponvannan did their bit with poise and required effectiveness. The others were okay.

Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu Filem Review

Though this is not a pure family entertainer, the film has given enough food for thought when it comes to father-son relationship, romance, comedy and other aspects. While the first half of the film carries on with the lighter moments of the story such as romance and action, it is the second half which takes a very intense turn and there is a lot of emotional overflow in it. Commercially, the film might find its way in the B & C Centres but this is no recipe for the class audience.

Bharatstudent verdict: A passable entertainer with average credits.
