Maattrraan Kollywood Movie Review

Story: A good tale gone sour, the story begins with Akhilan and Vimalan (suriya) who are born as conjoint twins. Their father Ramaswamy (sachin) is a famous genetic scientist and as the twins grow, he also grows to become a rich man due to the milk powder he has made. But a Russian journalist figures out there is something dangerous in the formula of that milk powder. Who is that Russian journalist? What has it got to do with the milk powder in India? How do the twins deal with the issue? All this forms the rest of the story.

Maattrraan Tamil Cinema Review
Presentation: The director has come up with an interesting storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was a major disappointment.  The dialogues were alright, the script was average and the screenplay was a major headache. Background score was another setback and songs were not worthy though they were shot very well. Cinematography was the best. Editing was required in many scenes especially during the second half. Costumes were well designed while the art department was appealing. Suriya as usual delivers his best and he scores all the brownie points. Kajal was there for the glamour and romance track. Sachin Khedekar could not give that energy to the role. Tara Anuradha was alright. Ravi Krishna had a good role and he did his bit. Others were hardly there.

Conclusion: Maattrraan is the combination of K V Anand-Suriya in the offing, the expectations were high. Even the idea of conjoined twins was something different. But good ideas need not necessarily be good films. The first half was somewhat okay but the slow pace was a major problem. The second half got worse with slow narration and lifeless scene composition. Overall, this is a film which could have been a lot better and had the material to score a hit but poor handling has hampered it. At the box office, openings will be good but after that it is going to be difficult.

Bharatstudent verdict: Good concept, neat performances but poor execution
