Kuselan Kollywood Movie Review
Story:
An emotional tale, the story is about two childhood buddies Balu (Pasupathy) and Ashok Kumar (Rajini) and Balu does not stop at anything to make his friend happy. As life would have it, they take different paths and Balu becomes a barber in a small village. He is happily married to Sridevi (Meena) and has three children. However, his finances are dry and he is often led to the door of the financer (Livingston), the financier. On the other hand, Balu has tough competition from the more smart and clever rival (Vadivelu) who has a saloon right on the opposite side. Balu is a man of pure ethics and his self respect and honesty are his only soul. His bumpy ride continues until one day there is news that a film shooting is going to happen in their place and the hero of the film is Superstar Ashok Kumar (Rajinikanth). The news spreads like wildfire and Balu knows this but then given his position he hesitates to show himself. On the other hand, folks around get to know the friendship of Balu and Ashok Kumar and in this process those who have been ridiculing him start doing favors for him only with the hope of meeting Ashok Kumar. But Balu has his own issues and soon the people start shunning him since he is not able to do what they want and even his own children start showing anger. What happens from there? Does Balu meet Ashok? Will Ashok recognize Balu? All this forms the rest of the story.

Kuselan Tamil Cinema Review
Presentation:
The director who is doing a remake of a Malayalam hit has come out with a quality presentation but then he should have focused more on the narrative which was disconnected. The technical side of the film is good with some exceptional cinematography and about two numbers which can be taken home, the background score is not impressive and it was weak. The dialogues did not have enough ammunition to pick the emotional chords, the screenplay faltered in few instances and the script was stitched in a random fashion. However, the cast has carried with film with élan which really worked out for the movie. Rajini was his Iredescent best and for all those who have known him as the punch star with mass dialogues, this form is a revelation. Pasupathy was the perfect choice for the role as he portrayed the emotional scenes really well and on par with Rajini. Equally competent was Meena who did her role perfectly, Nayantara was utilised to the fullest and her glamour is growing by leaps and bounds with each passing day. Vadivelu did his bit with good energy and extracted healthy laughs, Chinni Jayanth was required, Livingston was impressive with his role while M S Bhaskar used his wit to the fullest this time. The others did their bit and added value to the film.

Kuselan Filem Review

Conclusion:
The film which had superstar Mammootty in the original is a simple treat with loads of emotions and sentiment in it. Since the story line was straight, the maker tried to do his best to fill the entire length with songs, comedy and scenes. While the first half goes in a regular mode with the elements of drama, the second half sets the momentum a bit with emotion and melodrama. The climax of the movie could have been a lot better as the whole struggle of the protagonist was the crux of the film and the reunion scene was stale. However, Rajini's flurry of dialogues in the last few minutes are surely touching, there are places where he has shown his magical brilliance. The film will not be a blockbuster like his earlier flicks but then it is a profitable venture for the makers.

Bharatstudent Verdict: A passable entertainer, can be watched once.
