Kavalan Kollywood Movie Review

Set on the backdrop of a village near Madurai, the story begins with Bhoominathan (vijay) who is a carefree youth and in order to bring some responsibility, his father tells him to join the house of Muthuramalingam (rajkiran), a don who becomes a good man. In turn, Muthuramalingam assigns Bhoomi to protect his daughter Meera (asin). However, Meera finds Bhoomi to be a disturbance at first but eventually she begins to fall in love with him. The issue reaches Muthuramalingam and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Kavalan Tamil Cinema Review

The director has come up with a regular storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was very weak. The dialogues were normal, the script was written shoddily and the screenplay was not upto the mark. Background score was good but songs could have been better. Cinematography is adequate. Editing was effective. Costumes were trendy while the art department was good. Vijay comes up with a strong performance and he gives life to his character. Asin looks sensuous but she has lost weight which is a turn off. Rajkiran was matured as usual. Mithra Kurien looks pretty, Roja was effective, M S Bhaskar was okay. Vadivelu brought few smiles. 'Pithamagan' Mahadevan was brilliant.

Kavalan Filem Review

The film is the remake of the Malayalam hit movie 'Bodyguard' but then the script has been tweaked enough to suit the image of Vijay. However, while the first half was entertaining to an extent, it is the second half which gets a bit stretched and there is an overdose of sentiment and melodrama. The film could have worked if it got trimmed and more grip was present during the second half. Overall, the openings for the film will be good due to its star power but the film might fizzle out eventually at the box office.
