Kathikappal Kollywood Movie Review

A story without meaning, the plot begins with a young man who calls himself Joshua (Anup), he comes to a village and declares that he happens to be the reincarnation of Dr Parivallai (Prem) who has been missing from the past twenty years. This does not go too well with the villagers around and importantly the doctor's wife Saaral (Meera). However, in comes the doctor's brother (Vijay) who is a well known psychiatrist himself and convinces all those present about the identity of Joshua. Just when everything was to settle, a young lady Mallika (Poornitha) enters the scene claiming to be the real wife of Joshua but then she also adds that he is not willing to be her husband since he wants to get back to Saaral. All this apart, there is a story of a dreaded forest brigand Veerayyan who joins hands with the local police and kidnaps a minister for ransom of three crores. The money comes but the police kill the minister and puts the blame on Veerayya, however he manages to escape from them and just before his death he reveals the secret of the amount to Saaral. The cops now come in search of Joshua since he claims to be the doctor and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Kathikappal Tamil Cinema Review

The director has attempted to come up with a suspense plot but then he lost out on the narrative aspect which was important to keep things intact. Presentation was alright given the locations but the script had many loose ends, the screenplay was not executed well and even the music and cinematography departments were not upto the mark. The editing was totally numb and the dialogues did not have anything inside. Even the cast was not much of a use since Anup has a long way to go on his expressions. Purnitha was overreacting and she needs to calm down in front of the camera. Meera was just about okay and Prem fitted the role of a doctor. The others were just about okay and did not do much to change the course of the film.

Kathikappal Filem Review

The film should have focused on presenting the plot in a better way and should not have revealed the plot right at the start. Then there was nothing much for the audience in it except to wait for that to happen. While the first half of the film attempts to be a bit intriguing with its share of twists and turns, the interval bell sounds a relief. Similarly, the second half is another painful journey with nothing to keep the audience glued. Overall, the film has failed in all ingredients and it will not be long before it will bite the dust.
