Gouravargal Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
A predictable tale, the story begins with Ganesan (vignesh) who is a wayward youth in a village but then he promises his mother (kuyili) that he will become responsible and start earning. He comes across Thondaman (sathyaraj) who is a don but is a do gooder to the people. His deeds impress Ganesan and he joins Thondaman ready to give his life as well. On the other hand, he falls in love with Poonkodi (monica). But trouble begins when a minister's son falls for Poonkodi and a cop (ranjith) helps him by creating differences between Ganesan and Thondaman. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a known subject and though the presentation was good, the narrative was not upto the mark. The dialogues were routine, the script was predictable and the screenplay was average. Background score was good but songs were not that impressive. Cinematography made its presence felt. Editing was numb, especially during the second half. Costumes were better and art department was above average. Sathyaraj shoulders the film throughout and tries his best to salvage it. Vignesh has done such roles before so nothing new from him. Monica looks seductive as usual and her spicy number is a visual feast. Bhanuchander was effective, Alex was apt, Ranjith was regular, Kuyili was okay, Yuvarani was alright, the others did their bit as required.

Conclusion:
The film finds its inspiration from movies like 'Nayakan' 'Dhalapathy' etc but then it is nowhere near those masterpieces. While the first half looks promising, things begin to wear down as the film progresses. The second half becomes quite idle and there is nothing interesting for the audience. Though the presentation and technical values were alright, the content should have been better and the emotional graph was low. This will be a below average grosser at the box office barring few high openings.
