Azhagar Malai Kollywood Movie Review

A known tale, the story is set on the backdrop of a village in Madurai and here is Pughazendi (rk) who is a vagabond. He doesn't care about anyone and is often seen drinking and spending time with his uncle Kaththamuthu (vadivelu). On the other hand, there is Pandithurai (napoleon), Pughazendi's elder brother who is a well noted man and is very highly respected in the village. Though they are opposites, Pandi loves Pugazh very much. However, they have a problem in the form of Rathnavelu (Lal) due to the previous enmity of their families. The story takes a turn when Pugazh chances upon Janani (bhanu) and falls for her instantly. Pandi takes initiative and wants to get them married but Rathnavel starts making his plans to spoil it. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Azhagar Malai Tamil Cinema Review

The director has come up with a routine story and though the plot is old, the narrative was neatly given. The dialogues were fun, the script was neat, the screenplay was apt. Music played a key role and songs were good. Cinematography captured the locales well. The art department made its presence felt and the costumes gave the proper countryside feel. Editing was okay. RK came up with a good performance and it is an experiment with his image but he has carried it well. Bhanu looks toned down and has fitted the bill correctly. Napoleon was elegant, Lal was perfect, the real show stealer was Vadivelu with his dialogues and his song with Sona is another highlight. Manivannan was standard, the others did their bit to contribute.

Azhagar Malai Filem Review

The film happens to be a routine storyline and so there was nothing new for the audience to predict. The first half of the film goes about with the comedy and the regular songs, the second half is more on the revenge mode and filled with action. The film might go well with the B and C audience and the rural side will like it. The presence of a suitable plot and depth of characters would have made the difference. This is a pure masala treat for the front benchers with a touch of sentiment to it.
