Avan Ivan Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
An unusual tale, the story is about two brothers Walter Vanangamudi (vishal) and Kumbudren Sami (arya) who are born to different mothers and same father. Both are thieves and fight like cat and dog for small things and want to prove their supremacy against each other. However, Walter is keen on proving himself as an actor. They have a guide and mentor in the form of Highness (g m kumar) and they never go against his word. Meanwhile, Walter falls in love with police constable Baby (janani) and Kumbudren Sami is smitten by the naive Nagu (madhu shalini). While these are the relations between one another, how things take shape for each one forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a variety storyline and while the presentation was great, the narrative was capturing. The dialogues were rural, the script was average but the screenplay was gripping. Background score was excellent but only two songs were good. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was required during critical situations. Costumes were realistic while the art department was awesome. The film belongs to Vishal completely for his impeccable performance and his intense act, he was too good. Arya was quite toned down in this and he clicked wherever required. G M Kumar was excellent, Janani Iyer was natural, Madhu Shalini looked innocent and made her presence felt. Suriya adds value to the film with his brief presence. Vignesh was apt. Ambica and Prabha were upto the mark. The character doing the villain's role was okay.

Conclusion:
The film comes across as a rather entertaining treat when compared to Bala's earlier movies. While the first half goes about mildly with few elements of comedy and romance, the real tempo picks up during the second half and there is drama, intensity and action. Overall, this is a film which is good in technical values and narration but suffers badly due to lack of proper storyline and content. At the box office, this may get good openings due to the star power and the hype created. But this film is not only for Bala's storytelling power but also to see the power of Vishal as an actor.

Bharatstudent verdict: Rustic and realistic, not for regular audience
