Ashoka Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
A brave attempt by Prem, 'Ashoka' is the story of Ashoka (Prem) who happens to be a very honest and tough police officer and is the chief security officer for the Prime Minister. With his dare devilry and intelligence, he quashes an assassination attempt on the Prime Minister by a team which is headed by the evil mastermind Naveen. The real trouble begins when Huzoor (Raghuvaran) who hails from Pakistan happens to be a mentor and guru for the deputy Prime Minister Anandraj and influences him to hatch a plan so that the Prime Minister can be killed once and for all. The Deputy PM takes the wish as the command and starts working religiously to execute the order and almost manages to succeed by having the PM shot but thanks to the intelligent and courageous Ashoka, the Prime Minister gets admitted in the hospital. Now, Naveen with the help of a girl successfully sneak inside the hospital and manages to approach the PM barely in striking distance. What happens in the end? Is Ashoka successful this time? How does the talented Naveen plan to achieve his mission? This forms the rest of the story.

Ashoka Tamil Cinema Review

Presentation:
Prem who has done a dual job by directing and acting in the film as the hero has actually come out with a decent effort. The subject he chose was commendable and the presentation of the film was smooth. He ensured the pace was there on the film and managed to entertain the audience to a great extent. The major flaw in the film is the poor script and an inconsistent narration. There are many loopholes and unanswered questions added with some really irritating sentiment angle. The music by Sabesh is good this time and so is the camera work which has captured the intensities strongly at times. Prem stood out as a no nonsense officer very neatly and he has suited the script very smoothly. The glamour aspect has been taken care of in a very nice manner by Anusri who played the nurse. Raghuvaran is par excellence as usual. The remaining cast has done their roles with justice.

Conclusion:
A daring attempt by the director who also played the role of the central protagonist, the theme of a bodyguard and the genius of the evil men has given a lot of mileage to the film. It is the unnecessary sentiment and a ridiculous patriotic shot along with a series of illogical sequences that disturbed the balance of the film. The first half took off in an interesting manner but then the second half fizzled out due to the sentiment angle and other scenes. But then, the pace of the movie has been maintained and the action scenes have been given enough punch to make the film run for a decent time.

Bharatstudent verdict: A passable thriller could have been better, worth watching it once.
