Asal Kollywood Movie Review

A known tale with a different presentation, the story is set on the backdrop of Paris and here lives Jeevanandam (ajith) who is a noted arms dealer. However, his weapons and products are exclusively for the defense authorities. He has three sons - Shiva (ajith again) and two half-sons (Sampath and Rajeev). The story takes a turn when the uncle (pradeep rawath) of the half-sons lures them to money and introduce them to the dreaded don in India, Shetty (Kelly dorjee). Shetty has other plans to destabilize the country and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Asal Tamil Cinema Review

The director has come up with a known tale but it is the presentation and the narrative that has to be given credit. The dialogues were slick, the script was neat, the screenplay was adept. Background score was good but songs could have been better. The real highlight is the cinematography and the locations chosen. Costumes and art department were excellent. Editing was crisp. Action sequences and car chases deserve a special mention here. Ajith has come up with a dual role in this one and the senior part is splendid while the junior part is okay. Sameera Reddy looks chic while Bhavana as the innocent girl has done her part well. Prabhu was passable, Suresh was good, Sampath was apt, Rajeev was alright, Kelly Dorjee was evil enough and so was Pradeep Rawath. Yuhi Sethu brought in some laughs, the others didn't have much to offer.

Asal Filem Review

The film can see traces of 'Billa' in the making but then due credit must be given to the tight knit screenplay and the rich presentation. While the first half has got the regular elements of comedy, action and romance, it is the second half that is filled with action and the drama. The film scores high on the technical aspects and production values and the typical 'Thala' dialogues from Ajith. Commercially, it will be a success since it will appeal to the masses but it could have created more impact if the length was altered.
Bharatstudent Verdict: Treat for Ajith fans, even otherwise good!!
