Aadukalam Kollywood Movie Review

Story:
A variety tale, the story begins with Karuppu (dhanush) who is a loyal servant to Pettaikaran (jayabalan) who is known for his cock fight sport and a champion. However, he also has an assistant in the form of Dorai (kishore) who doesn't like the growth of Karuppu in front of Pettaikaran. The story takes a turn with the arrival of Rathnaswamy (naren) who is also a stud in cockfights and challenges Pettaikaran. On the other hand, Karuppu falls in love with an Anglo-Indian girl Irene (taapsee). What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a variety storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was impressive. The dialogues were good, the script was written neatly and the screenplay was effective. Background score was good and two songs were worth taking home. Cinematography is another highlight. Editing was crisp. Costumes were apt while the art department was above average. Dhanush has come up with a brilliant performance and carried the film very well. Jayabalan was equally competent and proved his mettle. Kishore was excellent. The revelation was Taapsee who is bright, bubbly and sensuous. Naren was natural.

Conclusion:
The film appeals due to the variety flavour and it is also a connect for the audience in the countryside for whom cockfight is a prestigious thing. While the first half goes in an entertaining manner along with a touch of romance and action, it is the second half which gets dragged at key places hampering the momentum. But then, it is the feel of the film and the flavour of nativity which appeals. Overall, this has a strong chance of success at the box office.
