Veendum Kannur Malluwood Movie Review

Story: A mediocre tale, the story begins with Jayakrishnan (anoop) who works as a tourist guide at Taj Mahal in Agra. He is the son of the strong leftist leader Madayi Surendran (sivaji guruvayoor) who is against MNCs. Jayakrishnan leaves Kerala unable to see the poor development. However, he returns to Kannur and falls in love with Radhika (sandhya), daughter of Surendran’s rival Divakaran (riza bawa).  But Jayakrishnan is attacked the day he lands in Kannur. Peeved by this, he starts a party named New Communist through social media. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Veendum Kannur Malayalam Cinema Review

Presentation: The director has come up with a predictable storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was not that involving. The dialogues were serious, the script was average and the screenplay was moderate. Background score was alright but the songs were not upto the mark. Cinematography was alright. Editing was crisp but was required during few sequences. Costumes were regular while the art department didn’t have much to do. Anoop Menon has come up with a different performance, Sandhya was there only for romance, Sivaji Guruvayoor was standard, Sajitha was brief, Riza Bawa was regular, Rajesh Pillai was neat.

Conclusion: Given the strong influence of communism in Kerala, this film comes with a theme that many can connect. However, the addition of social media is something new. While the first half goes about with the regular elements of politics, it is the second half that gets into some new twists and the predictable climax. Overall, this is a film which takes off well but fails to get the involvement as it progresses. At the box office, this would be a below average fare.
