Thavalam Malluwood Movie Review

An emotional saga, the story begins with Sivan (Suresh Gopi) who grows up as an orphan and he has a mentor in the form of Panikker (Nedumudi) who runs a roadside eatery shop. Sivan starts assisting him and one day the joint is visited by Gowri (Sreejith Ravi) who happens to be the local goon. From the corner of an eye, Sivan notices that Gowri and his henchmen have kidnapped a girl and then he rescues her. In this fight, the girl stabs and kills Gowri's gang man and she ends up going to jail. Her name is Kanakam (Sindhu Menon) and an orphan, soon Sivan gets to marry her and both of them are blessed with a baby girl Meenakshi (Baby Diya), however Kanakam dies during the childbirth and Sivan takes care of his daughter and changes his profession as a cobbler. Meanwhile, he is also aware that Gowri will soon be out of jail and will seek his vengeance so Sivan decides to stay away from him for the safety of his daughter. On the other hand, there is the gypsy girl Thamara (Rithya Menon) who loves Sivan deeply but then her feelings are not received by Sivan and reciprocated. Gowri soon comes out and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Thavalam Malayalam Cinema Review

The director has constructed a special plot in this and though the presentation was alright, the narrative faltered at few points. The dialogues were not upto the mark, the script was having few elements of doubt and the screenplay was just average. Music did its bit without any effect but the camera was effective. The pace of the movie was maintained but then there was nothing captivating for the audience to feel the difference. Suresh Gopi was not the right choice since he looked too suave for the role, Sindhu Menon was brief and had no real scope, Rithya needs to work more on her expressions and acting, Nedumudi Venu was regular, Sreejith was not that impacting, the real show stealer was Meena Ganesh who did a perfect job. Baby Diya was dumb, the others need no mention here as their contribution was negiligible.

Thavalam Filem Review

The film takes off on a good mode with the action episode and the eventual love angle that blooms in but later on as the second half arrives, it becomes more of a melodrama and sentimental treat than some convincing family tale. The performances looked plastic which diluted the momentum and made things stale. However, the climax was worth a watch and the impact was resounding which scored few points for the movie. Technically, it is a poor product but the commercial angles may just work in its favor.

Bharatstudent Verdict : A passable entertainer, it is melodramatic...
