Roudram Malluwood Movie Review

Story:
An outright Mammotty product, 'Roudram' is the story of the honest cop Narendran (Mammootty) shortly know as Nari married happily to Prabha (Manju) and known for his strictness and ethics. Things change when he is assigned to investigate the murder of Kambilikandam Jose, a drug dealer and the task is given to him directly from the Chief Minister's office. Supported by a dynamic team of DIG Shihabudeen and S P Thomas Anthony, Nari gets into the crux of the case and as and when he starts tapping the leads, the baddies get into the scene and kill them mercilessly. As the mystery unfolds, Nari also realizes that IG Balagopal and ACP Joy are also involved and the Chief Minister's administration which was seeing a threat from the Mafia to the government now finds itself facing a threat from Nari and his team since the link ups and penetration are found to be much deeper. Is Nari successful in bringing and end to all this? What happens to his family in this bargain? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
This was largely expected from the Renji Panikkar camp but then if he had worked a bit on the script and the presentation, this definitely would have reached the hit mark. The story is routine and at times reminds us of Renji's earlier hit 'Bharatchandran IPS', however this time there was not the barrage of lengthy power packed dialogues which were replaced by one liners rather effective. It looked like he was more into the lines used in the film than the overall presentation and other technical sides. Cinematography, music did their bit and supported the frontline team very well. Editing could have been a bit better in the second half. The whole focus of the movie was superstar Mammootty who carried out the role of a cop with diligence and his presence kind of covered up for the setbacks in the film. Sai Kumar as Sethu the villain was impressive while Vijayaraghavan, Rajan P Dev did their bits with equal professionalism. Manju did not have much to offer in this film.

Conclusion:
A power packed subject made in a potboiler fashion but then the elegant presence of the superstar polished its appearance and they were not the throat breaking loud voices. Even the action sequences were not ridiculous and were limited to an average level. The first half of the film took off really well but then it stooped to a great extent in the second half due to the dragging in the scenes and the lack of flavor which is required to keep the audience glued to the seats with excitement. The projection of Mammotty and the dialogues may work in the film's favor which can take it to run for 5- 6 weeks with decent crowds.

Bharatstudent verdict: Recommended. Mammotty fans will enjoy it!!
