Robinhood Malluwood Movie Review

Story:
A known tale, the story begins with the life of Venkatesh Iyer (prithvi) in the city of Kochi. He has a dual life- during the day, he is working as a physics lecturer in a college and as the night falls, he changes into a high profile thief who specializes in breaking into ATMs and getting away with the cash amount. Despite several attempts, the bank is unable to nab him and so they decide to bring in the flirtatious private investigator Alexander (Narein) to catch hold of the culprit. On the other hand, there is a romance track with the beautiful lady lecturer (bhavana) falling in love with Venkatesh and hot on his heels is also the ACP Harris (jayasuriya) who is unable to catch him. Why does Venkatesh become a thief? What does he do with the money? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a known tale and though the presentation was stylish, the narrative was not engaging. The dialogues were dull, the script had many loopholes, the screenplay was not quick. Music didn't add much to the film and the background score was alright. Cinematography was neat, editing was raw, costumes did their bit to make their presence felt while the art department was strong. Prithviraj was the sole grace of the film with his performance and looks convincing as a thief though his character was not etched well, Bhavana tries hard to look glamorous and manages to be successful, Narain was a misfit as a flirt but good as an investigator, Jayasuriya was standard, Samvrutha was not required, the others didn't have much to do and were quite brief with their presence.

Conclusion:
The film follows the same fundamental from the regular 'Robinhood' tales but here is an element of sentiment and a tragic flashback that suits the Mallu audience. While the first half goes about with the smart and suave robberies, at one point it gets repetitive and the whole thing is predictable. The writing and screenplay are to be blamed for not being able to create an interesting climax. The technical values were okay and it could only be for those ardent Prithvi fans who would like to see his performance once again. Otherwise, there is not much in this to relish.
