Story:

A tale of history, the story is set on the backdrop of the seventeenth century in the Thalassery region in Kerala. Here is the royal family of Kottayam which is ruled by Pazhassi (Mammootty). The British government begins to impose heavy taxes on the local kings and Pazhassi becomes the first man to oppose it. He is deemed as an enemy of the British empire and in no time, he is forced to escape from his palace. But soon, Pazhassi starts planning a counter attack in a strategic manner and for this, he has the support of his lieutenant Edachenu Kunkan (sarath), Kaithery Ambu (Suresh Krishna), the local tribes head Thalakkal Chandhi and Neeli. The initial phase sees the British suffering badly but due to the evil and heinous Pazhaywvedam Chandhu (suman) who leaks information to the whites, Pazhassi's men start facing trouble. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:

The director has come up with a grand subject and both his narrative and presentation were upto the mark. He was careful in the script, the screenplay was impressive. The dialogues were rejuvenating, the background score was effective and the songs were gripping. Cinematography was mind blowing while editing was neat and crisp. Full marks go to the costumes and art department for working out the film with such an eye for detail. The other departments did their bit as required. Mammootty came up with a magnificent performance, Sarath Kumar was splendid, Suman was evil enough, Suresh Krishna was apt, Thilakan was elegant, Jagathy was nice, Nedumudi was neat, captain Raju was good, the others also contributed effectively and made their presence felt.

Conclusion:

The film is based on the real life historic incident and so it was handled carefully without violating anything. While the first half goes about with the building of the plot and how the protagonist achieves victories, the second half is about how betrayal and greed make up for the downfall. The film will appeal to all those who want to know about history and given the patriotic genre, this will be liked by all genres of audience. It is a grand effort so the attempt must be appreciated. This will rule at the box office.
