Parthan Kanda Paralokam Malluwood Movie Review

A tale gone sour, the film begins with the small village of Krishnapuram in Kerala and Parthasarathy (Jayaram) who is a social activist along with his group of friends believes in doing good to the people of the village. He is well aided by his group of friends Suleiman (Kottayam Nazeer) and Poonkodi. His main rival is none other than his own uncle Phalgunan Thampy (Jagathy) who is a corrupt man and creates tensions all around. Parthasarathy stands upto him at all times and opposes his wrong moves. Meanwhile, there is a temple that has been locked from a long time since Thampy wants to grab all its assets but Parthasarathy puts legal blockades by multiple applications in the court. In this situation enters Satyabhama (Sreedevika), daughter of Thampy and she happens to be a well known lawyer. She pretends that she is in love with Partha and when the situation goes to the court, she betrays him and helps her father get control over the temple. In return, Parthan is sent to jail for a month. Taking this as the chance, Thampy incites communal violence in the village with the help of the local MLA (Rajendran) and many of them get killed. Parthan comes out of jail and attends a wedding party along with his friends but due to spurious liquor many of his friends get killed while Parthan is assumed dead. In fact he is alive and at that point of time arrives Madhavan (Mukesh) who claims to be Parthan's close friend in class. He then starts guiding Parthan at every instant and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Parthan Kanda Paralokam Malayalam Cinema Review

The director's intention to come up with a meaningful plot is understood but he has fallen flat in the narration of the story. The major flaw lies in the poor script and though the presentation is good with some good music and an above average camerawork, the dialogues were rather crappy and the screenplay was shoddily executed. Editing again was another flaw which missed out when required and the other departments were barely okay in their contributions. Jayaram did his best to salvage the film but to no avail, his performance was alright. Mukesh did his bit mechanically but it could have been done by a lesser known actor. Sreedevika has enough appeal and she has shown potential. Jagathy was repetitive while Kalabhavan Mani was underutilized, Rajendran was a misfit while Nazeer emerged with a good performance. The others were just doing their bit with the required standard.

Parthan Kanda Paralokam Filem Review

The film had been lying in the attic for quite sometime and it might have lost its sheen in the process. While the first half was about the plot building and the character introductions, the second half went more over the board with unwanted scenes and melodramatic situations. The major culprit is the direction and the script departments which has messed up a good movie. The film has no chance of making it big in the market so it will not be long before this will get into archives.

Bharatstudent Verdict: Good story spoiled in presentation, disappointing!!!
