Nayakan Malluwood Movie Review

Story:
A mastered tale, the story is set on the backdrop of the Kochi underworld and it begins with Varadaunni (indrajit) who is originally a Kathak artiste. His life takes a turn when his doting father and his darling sister lose their lives and this happens due to the crime world which is being run by the power hungry and rather weird JS (siddique). The sober Varada unleashes the beast in him and is hungry for revenge. He then finds support and strength in the form of the veteran don Vincent Karanavar (thilakan) and his daughter Maria (dhanya mary). Both father and daughter are on a similar mission to end JS. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a noted storyline but then it is his ability to present it in the right format along with a gripping narration that keeps the spirits high. The dialogues were dense, the script has been written well but it could have avoided few complications here and there, the screenplay was superb. Background score was effective and though the songs are not that great, they were okay. The real stunner was the cinematography which is haunting. Editing could have been sharper at few places. Costumes were elegant and the art department was stylish. Indrajith has come up with a gripping performance and he has created an impact, Thilakan was impeccable, Dhanya was decent and did her bit as required, Siddique was mean and superb, Lalu Alex was good, Kiran Raj was cool, Vijayaraghavan was regular, the others contributed in their own way and added value.

Conclusion:
Though the story of the film is routine, it is the aspect of presentation and the technical values attached to it that has made it special. While the first half goes about with a mild touch to what is to unfold, the second half comes across as a riveting entertainer keeping the audience on the edge of the seat. The film has a good pace and it has got enough commercial elements to appeal to all genres of audience. In a way, this is a trend setting movie in the Malayalam capers so it could get to the super hit tag soon if the word of mouth spreads well.

Bharatstudent Verdict : Polished and thrilling, recommended.
