Navagatharkku Swagatham Malluwood Movie Review

Story: A below average tale, the story begins with Rajasekharan (mukesh) a lecturer in a city college who is also a bachelor. He is fondly called as Appettan by all due to his affectionate bonding with students. He is also the warden for boys hostel. He is like elder brother to all students and helps them in all ways possible. But due to the antics by hostel boys Aravindan (vinay fort) and his group, Rajasekharan is at clash with Sreerekha (jyothirmayi), warden of girls hostel. The story takes a turn when Rajasekharan goes out of his way to help the love affair of Prasanth (renjith) and Veena (shafna). Sreerekha tries to stop this affair and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Navagatharkku Swagatham Malayalam Cinema Review

Presentation: The director has come up with a thoughtful storyline and while the presentation was alright, the narrative was bad. The dialogues were dull, the script was weak and the screenplay was poor. Background score was alright but songs were not suiting the moods. Cinematography was poor. Editing was bland. Costumes were well designed while the art department was upto the mark. Mukesh has come up with a good performance and he does his best. Jyothirmayi looks seductive even now and makes her presence felt. Vinay Fort was okay, Renjith Menon was regular, Shafna was pretty. The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion: There is always a fine line between coming up with a story on paper and conceiving it onscreen. If there is no sync in between them then the film is bound to flop. This is what happened in this movie. The storyline is good but the execution and presentation went bad. While the first half goes about on a lighter note with elements of college comedy, romance etc the second half goes about with some drama and the climax goes stale. Overall, this is a film which has suffered due to lack of depth and focus on subject. At the box office, this will fizzle out.
