Kandahar Malluwood Movie Review
A patriotic tale, the story begins with Major Mahadevan (mohanlal) back in action. On the other hand, there is Loknath Sharma (amitabh) who is a retired teacher and is married to a Malayali (sumalatha). They have a son Soorya (ganesh) who is quite hot blooded and somewhat irresponsible but then Loknath has got high hopes on him. The story takes a turn when Soorya chances upon Major Mahadevan and joins the army. He takes training under Major Shiva (major ravi) and becomes a top commando. An Air India plane is hijacked and the mission to rescue the passengers comes. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Kandahar Malayalam Cinema Review
The director has come up with an inspiring storyline and while the presentation was impressive, the narrative was a disappointment. The dialogues were over dramatic, the script was moderate but the screenplay got weak. Background score was nice and songs were okay. Cinematography is the highlight of the film. Editing was amateur. Costumes were realistic while the art department was natural. Mohanlal gave a majestic performance and made his presence felt. The real show stealer was Amitabh Bachchan who had a powerful screen presence. Ganesh Venktaraman was appealing and was competent. Sumalatha was sensuous and attractive. KPAC Lalitha was effective. Ragini Dwivedi was ravishingly sexy, Sunil Shetty was superb. The others didn't have much to offer.
Kandahar Filem Review
Though the intention of the makers was appreciable, the film came in with a lot of expectations given the star power and the previous movies of the same series. While the first half was spent totally on one character and his life, it is only in the second half that the actual story rolls. Too much of sentimental melodrama and an overdose of patriotism took away the entertainment and the excitement factor. The film would have been good if the script was made strong but for now, the box office will disappoint.
