Cinema Company Malluwood Movie Review

Story: A well knit tale, the story begins with Paulachan (Basil), Fazal (Badri), Panicker (Sanjeev) and Paru (Shruti) who meet each other at an international film festival and become very good friends. Paulachan is an aspiring actor while Paru happens to be a jingle singer who likes to lip sync other songs. Fazal is a very good writer while Panicker is always busy shooting short films with his handycam. The four are happy go lucky and spend their time criticizing the other movies. But an incident occurs which makes them decide to make their own film. But criticizing other movies and making one film is very different. What are the challenges they face forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with a different storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was decent. The dialogues were sensible to an extent, the script was moderate and the screenplay was adequate. Background score was good and gave some energy while songs didn’t have much effect. Cinematography was apt. Editing was required in few places. Costumes were trendy while the art department was realistic. Basil has done a good job with his role and he scores. Shruti was upto the mark. Badri was neat, Sanjeev was standard. Mithun was mediocre. Nithin made his presence felt. The others did their bit as required.

Conclusion: Though the backdrop of the film is more on the cinema industry and the lives of those involved with it, there are enough lessons for many to take home. While the first half goes on a lighter note with elements of comedy and casualness, it is the second half which gets quite serious and has some twists and turns. Overall, this is a film which has its own hiccups but still manages to leave an impact. At the box office, this will be an above average scorer.
