Banaras Malluwood Movie Review

Story:
A classical tale, the story begins with Hari (Vineeth) who has a team and he is into streetplays with meaningful messages to the community. He is the son of Prof. Balakrishnan Nair (Devan) and originally they come from Banaras since Nair happened to be a lecturer there and that's where he met Malathi (Kalranjini). However, she dies and Nair comes to Kerala and marries another lady. Hari is in love with Devu (Navya), his aunt's daughter and he is born in Banaras. Soon, Hari decides to go to Banaras since he wants to do research on North Indian folk art and much against his father's wishes he proceeds with his plan. In Banaras, he is helped by Prof Ananthakrishnan (Vijay Menon) and Paul (Harisree Asokan). Hari meets Amrutha (Kavya) who is a classical dancer and as luck would have it, he falls in love with her. Meanwhile, Hari decides to go to the house his parents lived and when he reaches there, he discovers that his mother had been murdered. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come out with a predictable storyline but he could have made it gripping with his narrative. The presentation aspect also was not upto the mark. The dialogues were regular, the script was written without strength and the screenplay was normal. The musical treat was good given the backdrop and the story but then the moments were not captured well by the camera. Given the holy town of Banaras, the locations could have been more breathtaking but that did not happen. Editing was weak. Vineeth was shining with his performance while Kavya lived up to the role. Devan was neat, Harisree Asokan was regular, Urmila Unni was apt, Navya Nair could have been better, Suraj Venjaramoodu was annoying with his regular comedy. Vijay Menon was neat, the others did their bit to add value to the film.

Conclusion:
The film takes off at an interesting pace but then it loses its momentum in no time. The film could have been lot better if the script was more tight and the handling of the movie as such was quite raw. Even the dialogues appeared quite unnatural and though there were many things to portray, the makers were not sure of which one to project. While the first half goes about with the regular tales of romance and dance performances, the second half gets into a predictable mode and in no time the audience realizes what is in store. The film will be liked for the classical touch and the musical treat but at the same time, it will also fail to score highly due to the poor handling.

Bharatstudent Verdict : Different but could have been better, can be watched once..
