Zor Lagaa Ke... Haiya! Bollywood Movie Review

Story:
An interesting tale, the story is about a group of kids and leading them from the front is Ram (Ashwin Chithale) who live in the same locality. These fun loving kids come across a different situation when they realize that a tree that has been there for many years is in the threat of getting chopped. This is due to the wily builder Gupta (Mahesh Manjrekar) who wants to raise a building there. However, he gets stiff opposition from a homeless old man Raavana (Mithun) and in no time, Raavana is joined by Ram and his gang of friends to stop Gupta from his evil venture. On the other hand, he lusts the construction worker Chamki in a big way but then is not successful. Does Ram and Raavana get successful in their resistance? That forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a very meaningful and thought provoking storyline but then he has not been able to come up with a convicted presentation. The dialogues were just okay, the script could have been written well and the screenplay was adept. Music was a major letdown in this one and the cinematography was just average. Editing was needed at many places and though the narration was neat at most of the quarters, it could have been better. The costumes, locations, art department did a good job. Mithun Chakraborty came up with a good and graceful performance, master Ashwin was also worth watching, Mahesh Manjrekar could have been better, Gulshan Grover was not upto his caliber, Riya looked ravishing and fitted the role very well while Sachin did his regular best. The others contributed as required.

Conclusion:
The film has come across as a good attempt to make the audience think but then it could have been a lot better if the script was handled deftly. While the first half goes about with a routine building of the plot, it is only the second half that has some substance to watch out for. There are quite a few interesting moments between the kids and Mithun and the makers should have focused on working out the roles of the villains in a rather convincing manner. However, it must be given due credit for bringing the audience to realize how they are missing out on environmental issues.

Bharastudent Verdict : Thought provoking but could have been better.
