Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag Bollywood Movie Review

Story:
It's a parody to original Sholay but in no comparison! Two friends-Raj and Heeroo (Prashant and Ajay Devgan) come to Mumbai and help Inspector Narasimha (Mohan Lal) in an attack on mafia drug vendors. Narasimha kills the brother of big mafia don Babban Singh. Babban Singh (Amitabh) cuts down the fingers of Narasimha (yes, hands of Tagore in Sholay). Heeroo loves Gunghroo (Nisha) and Durga (Sush) is a character similar to that of Jaya Bachchan in original. Rest has to be watched on screen and we understand that it's made with paleness all over.

Aag Bhuj Gayi:
The film is an absolute bore. This could be Ram Gopal Verma's worst film and one is sure it will remain so in his career. Aag Bhuj Gay Bhook mit gayi and Ramu will never ever attempt to make a remake again. This is not about the story. The story is immaterial. It is about RGV and Amitabh Bachchan. The film just goes to show how limited directors could be when they are pulled out of the cocoon of their set formulas.

Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag Hindi Cinema Review

RGV:
Ram Gopal Verma has faltered in every way possible. The casting is horrible and just does not excite. Prashanth Raj as Raj looks lost. One does not remember the character ever existed in the first place. Ajay Devgan as Heroo is grossly underutilized unlike in COMPANY. Nisha Kothari is an absolute wrong choice and given the importance and length of this character (Ghongroo) RGV should have picked up a better actress. One cannot relate to Mohan Lal's agony (Narsimha) and revenge. Mohan lal this time is a wrong choice and grossly under utilized like Ajay Devgan. Sushmita Sen is Durga in the film and can Ramu tell us why she is there in the film in the first place.

Amitabh Bachchan:
The guy is aging and lost sheen. This is one of his worst performances and it would be stupid to compare him with the Gabbar Singh as Amjad Khanin the 1975 Sholay. He does not instill fear at all in the film. Some scenes like the walking of Gabbar Singh have been tried to be imitated but it is no where near the original. AB should have a serious re look at what sort of films he would be doing.

Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag Filem Review

Urmila Fizzles Away:
One expected some fire works from the Urmila Matondkar song. The sizzle is all out and one just gets a feeling eating stale soggy samosas on a rainy day in a hill station.

The Comparisons With Sholay:
Now these would be obvious, but RGV with this film has helped to show why the film original should not be made. The Sippy's recently sold the remake rights of the film to the Pritish Nandy group. One would request them to return the money and take back the rights. Sholay cannot be remade.

Tera Kya Hoga Ramu?
That is the obvious question but one can hold that question till he comes up with his next movie. Ramu has created so much body of work for himself that he cannot be written off with just one movie. But his detractors will have a field day today. They will celebrate in his failure. Janta to teri bajayegi Ramu is bar. Agle bar bachke.
