Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Bollywood Movie Review

Story:
A gripping tale, the story begins with the narration of a police officer Agnel (randeep) who recalls the rise of the Mumbai mafia during the 70s and 80s. On one hand, there is Sultan Mirza (ajay) who grows up as a boy and in no time begins to rule the Mumbai mafia. On the other hand, there is his protégé Shoaib Khan (emraan) who is wild, ambitious and power hungry. On the emotional side, there is Sultan's love interest in the actress Rehana (kangana) while Shoaib has got a strong chemistry on with Mumtaz (prachi). However, things change with the conflict of interest between Sultan and Shoaib. This ends up in a confrontation between both and the power struggle begins. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with an almost realistic tale and both the presentation and narrative were excellent. The dialogues were impact creating, the script was deep and the screenplay was impressive. Songs were a major highlight and two of them are worth taking home. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was crisp, full marks go to costumes and the art department for bringing out the 80s back into the silver screen. Action sequences were decent. Coming to the cast, Ajay Devgn has proved once again why he is the best in the business, his versatility and sharp body language says it all. Emraan Hashmi has moved away from his serial kisser image and proved his mettle with high caliber performance. Kangana looks perfect to the T and has given a natural feel of her role, Prachi looks stunningly seductive and she has shown her oomph as well. Randeep Hooda was rugged and riveting, he made his presence felt, Gauhar Khan gave a visual feast with her item song, Naved Aslam was good, Avtar Gill was apt, Sanjeev was standard, Mehul was impressive. The others did their bit as required and added a lot of value.

Conclusion:
Though the debate continues regarding the story being a mirror image of the real life don Haji Mastan, care was taken to show the film in a sensitive manner. While the first half was excellent and takes off very well, it is the second half that falls down on a level but with the presence of top notch performers, it picks up the tempo. The climax could get varied reactions but it sure is not the regular endings. The onscreen chemistry between the lead pairs also worked for the romance track. Overall, the film has been made at a level headed degree and with good technical values, it becomes a treat to the memory lane.
