Nishabd Bollywood Movie Review

Sensible narration, sophisticated acting and all engrossing background score make this film worthwhile to watch. Despite having meek chances to be a commercial hit, this film stands impressive; raising beyond the assumed and affirmed pygmian themes of RGV films.

The theme of the film is inspired by Lolita & American Beauty which showcase a rich man who is past his prime leading a happy retired life. Vijay [Amitabh], a wealthy old man lives with his wife [Revathy] in a scenic hill station. The film starts with his daughter [Shradda Arya] coming for vacation along with her blonde friend Jiah [Jiah Khan]. Jiah reflects the modern and typical 'take light' girl who is neglected by divorced parents. Being infatuated with Amitabh and his passion to 'be what you want to be!' confesses her love for him and Vijay too accepts her proposal. The rest of the film is all about a conflict between feelings and righteousness. The realism in human life and ethos of a grown up man are narrated with finesse using subtle monologue technique.

Nishabd Hindi Cinema Review

Artists Performance:
Amitabh's histrionics are commendable and believe you me he gave a performance on par with that of 'Black'.  Probably Amitabh alone can convince us so impeccably with scenes of 'insane laughs' and 'anguished tears'. His lonely tears and dejected looks towards the end of the film compel us to empathize with his feelings. One will be literally haunted with the depth and profundity of Amitabh's expressions when he looks at Revathy and Nazar with downcast eyes.

Jiah's character has multiple shades with the undertones of Dil Chahta Hai's Saif Ali Khan; Lakshya's Hrithik, and Rangeela's Urmila. She surprises us with her appreciable ease in portraying a contradicting personality. She particularly excelled in scenes where she talks about Amitabh's portrait, her idea of poetry, her diehard lover Rishi [Aftab] and best of all scenes where she calls Amitabh "you are a hypocrite". Varma was successful in presenting her enigmatic through her mannerism and dialogues. Jiah Khan with her seductive eyes impresses the audience. As always, Nazar and Revathy did justice to their characters.

Nishabd Filem Review

Varma's Direction:
Think Varma would reconsider his statement about film making; "I make films for the common man". After watching Nishabd, one would rarely believe that it is RGV's film. Nishabd is for filmi pundits only. No violence, no fights, no filmy songs, no masala and above all a non commercial. This film demonstrates refinement and finesse in Ram Gopal Varma in the art of film making. Varma has captured the intricacies of adult life and demonstrated more maturity in handling his themes than ever before. Much hyped and controversial Nishabd leaves audience awe-struck for its screenplay. One thing remains unchanged, RGV's boldness to say what he wants to, without mincing words.

Fortunes at Box office:
As said, this film doesn't appeal to the common man nor can this bold theme bring the routine filmgoer to the theatre. The fortunes at box office will be determined by how it will fare among youngsters and a tiny section of moviegoers [critics]. However, watch it for Big B histrionics, RGV narration, Jiah's sensuality and clasping background score.
