Naqaab Bollywood Movie Review

The best part of Naqaab is that the movie runs at fast pace and it doesn't have too much emotions or melodrama which is now a thing of past in Bollywood movies. The movie has been shot in two hours and all the credit goes to Abbas-Mustan for keeping it short and crispy. It is not like the previous suspense flicks which drag almost close to 3 hrs viewing.

Story:
The movie starts with the introduction of new girl Urvashi (Sophie), who looks more like an Iranian than Indian girl. Sophie is engaged to Karan (Bobby Deol), who is a multimillionaire and loves her more dearly than his life. But incidentally, Sophie starts liking Vicky (Akshay Khanna ) whom she meets at a party. Her problem starts when she realizes she can't leave Karan due to many obligations she owes him and neither can she stop loving Vicky, with whom she finds the freedom of life.

The movie sounds like a Love triangle with a girl entangled between her true love and moral obligations, but it is not the case, all the characters in the movie are being constantly monitored and filmed by a certain individual, who seems to know each and every secret of all the characters. Suddenly, an incidence happens which puts everyone's life in turmoil. As the things start unfolding it becomes difficult and every character starts doubting other and their intentions.

Performances:
The movie has nothing much to offer in the first half, except for the great scenic locales of Dubai. More or less it looks very predictable as it progress, but in second half, the movie catches up the momentum and the thriller starts building up fast.. But in many places the momentum gets dropped and suddenly it looks very dull. Somehow Abbas-Mustan failed to keep the plot very intriguing at each and every step and the attention starts drifting many a times.

Interestingly last 20 mins of movie keep things absorbing and towards the end it almost become certain as to who will be the actual culprit that is taking advantage of the situation.Bobby Deol looks cool in his rich wardrobe. Though having less space in the first half, Bobby makes best use of his character later and has given quite good and surprising moments in the movie. In fact Bobby looks better in shady characters than playing safe.

Akshay Khanna is just getting better and better with each movie, the actor can don the role of any character quite easily, be at his humor or seriousness, the actor is able to deliver every shot impeccably. The chemistry that he shares with Urvashi is electric. Naqaab belongs to him in many ways for his splendid performance and being the soul of movie.

Urvashi is very refreshing as a new face, though her face resemble like that of Udita Goswami. Urvashi strikes the right chord, she looks gorgeous and her performance is exceptional and she looks bewitching all through. She looks better in western clothes. No idea whatsoever if she has to play some character in Saree. But she needs to work on her dialogue delivery and little brush up with her dancing skills.

Analysis:
Though marketed as the most suspense thriller of the year, Naqaab doesn't stand up to its image, the movie has its own thrilling moments in between and those are the highlights of it.This may not be Abbas-Mustan's best script, but every sequence bears the stamp of the master storytellers. Stylishly shot with some great moments, the storytellers at least have the courage to walk a seldom-used path. Pritam's music gels well with the mood of the film. Cinematography is excellent. On a whole, the movie has enough suspense to keep people glued to the screen till the end and giving it a watch over in weekend is not a bad idea at all.
