Story: A good tale gone bad, the story is set on the backdrop of Mumbai in the year 2003 when the Mumbai police decide to wipe out the mafia people. The task is given to few select officers and notable among them are Pratap Pandit (sonu sood) and Arun Inamdar (naseeruddin shah). Though their mission is the same, it is the struggle for power within the force which crosses their path. While Pratap is more ambitious and daring, Arun is more silent but highly schematic. How does this change their lives forms the rest of the story. |
Presentation: The director has come up with a thoughtful storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was good in parts. The dialogues were sensible at few places, the script was average and the screenplay was not that gripping. Background score was good and the item song was worth a watch. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was ordinary. Costumes were natural while the art department was realistic. Sonu Sood has come up with an intense performance and he shows his mettle, Naseeruddin Shah was excellent as usual but his full potential was not used. Neha Dhupia is not only seductive but remarkable in her performance. Vinay Pathak was impressive. Mohan Agashe was good, Amit Sadh was apt, Ujjwal Chopra was confident, Swanand Kirkire was neat. Hazel Keech gave a visual feast with her item song. |
Conclusion: Taking up the genre of mafia versus cops is always intriguing but such projects always require a strong and gripping screenplay with depth in the script. That was missing in this film. Despite having a highly efficient cast and good production values, the director could not deliver in the required proportion. While the first half goes about with the layering of the plot, the second half gets repetitive but the climax was brilliant. At the box office, the film will attract select audience so it could be a below average fare. Bharatstudent verdict: Could have been better |
