Story: A regular entertainer with a different touch, the story is about four people Ram (Arshad) whose blood boils at the drop of a hat and is ready to beat the pulp out of everyone, Mukherjee (Irrfan) who thinks he is a doctor, born for a cause and believes in leading from the front wherever he may be and has a fetich for cleanliness, Dabboo (Suresh Menon) who is a darling of the gang but refuses to speak though he hears everything and understands and last but not the least Gangadhar (Rajpal Yadav) who believes in fighting for a cause and that happens to be independence from the British. Interestingly, all these four happen to be patients at a mental asylum each having their own personality disorders and are under the supervision of Dr Sonali (Juhi), a very balanced Psychiatrist. There is also Shikha (Dia Mirza) who is madly in love with Raja but is scared of his anger outbursts, Sanyal (Rajat Kapoor), an ambitious business man who can go to any extent to achieve his objectives, Srivastav (Zaakir Hussain) the bad guy who is into name it and you have it illegal activities. Twist of fate occurs and the four patients sneak out of the asylum and get into the real world. What follows is a roller coaster ride of adventure and comedy and to know what happens, you have to watch the film.

Presentation: The director has come up with a very predictable story line but then it is the narration and the script that really keeps the audience engaged most of the time. The screenplay is good and the editing has been done crisply. The highlight of the movie is definitely the item song by Shahrukh and Hrithik along with the other masala number by Rakhee Sawant which is worth every penny. Irrfan Khan did his job with perfection though his role did not have much to offer. Rajpal Yadav was his best again and got few laughters for his role, Suresh Menon was effective with his expressions and dumb character, the real show stealer was Arshad again who has done a master's job yet again. The other like Juhi, Rajat, Zaakir Hussain did not have much to offer but carried out their roles with ease.

Conclusion: Though the story is flimsy, the director managed to give good entertainment to the audience with the power of his dialogues and of course the performances. The first half of the movie goes about in a very good pace and sets good expectations for the second but then the story takes a very predictable turn and even the climax comes out as ordinary. The film will find its way to profits due to the powerful presence of the Bollywood big stars and the hype but then it is also a pick or two from the Hollywood flick 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' so those who have seen it may not relish this one so much.
Bharatstudent Verdict : Passable entertainer, can be watched once. |
