KnockOut Bollywood Movie Review
A remake tale, the story begins with the street smart investment banker Tony Khosla (irrfan) who tends to do shady banking transactions. He uses a phone booth to make his calls and the transactions. One day, he makes his calls and is about to leave when the phone rings. Tony picks it up and the voice on the other end says that if he hangs up, then he will be killed. This is the voice of a sniper (sanjay). From then on, Tony is forced to act as per the caller's whims and fancies and in no time, this gets the attention of his wife (rukhsar), a mysterious woman (kangana), the police and the media. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
KnockOut Hindi Cinema Review
The director has come up with a remake story of sorts but then he has added his own masala to it. Though the content was weak, it was the presentation and sometimes good narrative that works. The dialogues were excellent, the script was simple, the screenplay was neat. Background score was top notch. Cinematography was excellent. Editing could have been better. Costumes didn't have much to do while art department was realistic. Sanjay Dutt carried out his role with élan and he did his bit. Irrfan was effective and he emotes the turmoil rightly. Rukhsar was brief. Kangana was cute and made her presence felt. Gulshan Grover was regular. Apoorva Lakhia was apt, Sushant Singh was good.
KnockOut Filem Review
The film takes most of its inspiration from the Hollywood thriller 'Phone Booth' and though there were few gripping moments, it fails to get the audience glued to it completely. While the first half was good and keeps the interest, it is the second half that tends to get repetitive and sometimes boring. However, the best is saved for the climax and that gives a very good impact. Overall, the film is good in parts but since the subject is quite limited, one has to see it without any preconceived notions. At the box office, it might be an average grosser.
Bharatstudent Verdict: Will be liked if watched with an open mind.
