Jodhaa Akbar Bollywood Movie Review

A historical feast, the film goes on the backdrop of the 16th century in India, when wars ruled and bloodbath was the only means of power. Here enters the Mughal emperor Akbar (Hrithik), who not only believes in winning wars but also the hearts of the small allies and establish a powerful kingdom. In this process, he comes into an understanding with Raja Barmal of Amer (Kulbushan) which forms the basis of a strategic alliance. Akbar proposes to marry Jodhabai (Aishwarya Rai), who is asked to forego her formal alliance with a Rajput prince. Unable to take the ploy where she is used as a subject, Jodhaa puts in a firm front not allowing Akbar to get into her heart easily. So now it becomes a challenge for the young emperor to not just win the war outside, but also the heart of his princess. What began as a political arrangement between two empires turns out into a pious relationship of love and respect between two powerful individuals. On a parallel track, there are dark characters like Raja Sujamal (Sonu Sood), brother of Jodhaa Bai, foster mother Maham Anga (Ila Arun) and the traitors, who use their evil intent and pay the price not before some destruction happens and lives are lost.

Jodhaa Akbar Hindi Cinema Review

Ashutosh Gowariker who has come up with a magnificient and courageous effort to bring back history into today's genre, full credit needs to be given for the way he has handled the whole subject. The presentation of the movie was spellbinding and the narration was equally competent, but then considering the mammoth length of the film (3hrs, 20 mins) the grip was loosened at some instances. However, the director has been well supported by some mesmerizing music along with a captivating camera. The costumes were grand, the settings were royal and the locations have been well captured which brought about the originality in the film. Coming to the cast, Hrithik Roshan was par excellence not just as a powerful emperor but as a true lover, his expressions in different situations were exemplary. Equally spellbounding was the performance of Aishwarya Rai, who conveyed more than half the feelings through her expressive eyes, she was the perfect picture of beauty considering the grandeur of her role and the chemistry between the lead pair was worth a treat. Sonu Sood was theatrical while Raza Murad had his steely voice to the fore. Ila Arun was hysterical, Kulbushan was dignified and so were Suhasini Mulay and Poonam Sinha.

Jodhaa Akbar Filem Review

A truly intriguing journey into the 16th century, which portrayed the life of history's most influential ruler, the director has come up with an almost realistic touch to the film. However, the narration bit should have been crispy during the film, which would have given an even more powerful image. The first half is covered with the total visual feast of the magnanimity of the rulers, their palaces and other things, the second half keeps the audience engrossed in the intense tale of love, betrayal, pain and sentiment. Overall, the film has stood upto its expectations and definitely is in line for a hit.

Bharatstudent verdict : Strongly recommended, watch it for the efforts and the grandeur, a lengthy affair so go with preparation!!
