One of the most enlightening movies for today's society, 'Halla Bol' is the story of Ashfaque (Ajay Devgan) who hails from a small town and dreams big of becoming a star. He starts off his life by becoming a street artist and soon joins the mentorship of Sidhu (Pankaj Kapur) who heads a street play group, Sidhu is an ex-robber and after undergoing a change, he decides to bring out the remedies to social issues through his street plays. Ashfaque soon becomes a star in the group and before anyone realizes the filmdom entices him, Ashfaque becomes Samar Khan - the top star of the film industry and as is obvious, he tends to become very star like missing out on schedules, showing tantrums and getting into an extra marital affair. His negligence goes to the extent of his caring wife Sneha (Vidya Balan) leaving him and she is soon joined by Sidhu. As fate would have it, a gruesome incident of two boys, the sons of an influential politician killing a girl at a star studded party changes the whole story and everyone present prefer to stay quiet including Samar. However, his conscience eats inside him and he is unable to cope up with the guilt. Caring two hoots to his celebrity status and stardom, Samar becomes Ashfaque again and decides to get justice to the girl's family. Is he successful in his attempts? Will his change get him back his wife and mentor? how all this happens and whether Ashfaque succeeds in finding out his true self forms the rest of the story.

Halla Bol Hindi Cinema Review

Raj Kumar Santoshi needs no other words except fantastic. Yet again, he has succeeded in what he does best- to bring out a deeper message to the audience. His impeccable thoughts come clearly on screen and his talent is shown when he shows the real side of film industry when stars keep backbiting each other behind while acting friends on the front. He also portrays the womanizing that happens in the industry and the tricks of endorsement. Though all this is shown in a very witty manner, if someone can read between the lines, the truth is evident. The other departments such as the camera, editing, costumes and other technical departments have done an above average job which has given a lot of life to the movie. The music is acceptable and barring two songs one each from Sukhvinder and the one on Haji Ali Dargah are quite catchable. Ajay Devgan is a revolution when it comes to his performance, his portrayal from an ordinary street side artist to a superstar and the eventual internal struggle is a treat. Even his comedy timing is good. Though Vidya Balan has not much to do in the film, her presence is critical enough and she managed to do her role with ease. The real show stealer was Pankaj Kapur who took the breath out of the audience with his punching acting and the scene where the handcuffed Kapur talks to the media is truly revolutionary. Darshan Jariwala as the politician brings life to the negative character.

Halla Bol Filem Review

A thought provoking subject which is presented in a very natural manner and though added with a bit of humor in it, the reality comes out clearly making the audience to think. The brilliance of the director is a major credit to the film aided with some stellar performance from the cast. While the first half goes more on a lighter note added with a touch of glamour, the second half gets more intense and serious and talks about how the path of righteousness and justice prevails.

Bharatstudent verdict : Strongly recommended. Truly a conscientious 'Halla' in your thoughts after you watch it!!
