Firaaq Bollywood Movie Review
A hard hitting tale, the story is set on the backdrop of the aftermath of the Gujarat Riots that happened in the year 2002 and it is a tale of six families who have no connection with each other. There is Mohsin (Md Samad) who has lost his entire family in the riots and is searching for his missing father staying in the refugee camp. He is taken into shade by the Aarti (Deepti) who is a suffering housewife since her husband Sanjay (Paresh) is more of a torturing husband and has his own role to play in the riots. On the other hand, there are the young Muslim-Hindu couple Sameer (Sanjay) and Anu (Tisca) who decide to go to Delhi so that Sameer can take Anu's surname and save himself. Then there is Muneera (Shahana) who happens to be a Henna artiste and when she returns to her place along with her family, all she sees is the ruins of her home. She suspects it is her best friend who is the cause for this. Last but not the least, there is the graceful Khan Saab (Naseer) and his close associate (Raghubir Yadav) who believe in the essence of humanity but are in dismay over the mindless killings. Even Khan Saab's music goes silent over the bloodbath of religion. How they form their interpretations and meanings of life from this forms the story.
Firaaq Hindi Cinema Review
Nandita's debut directorial attempt is definitely commendable and it must be said that she was proportionate in her narrative and presentation. The dialogues were deep, the script was written neatly without any patches, the screenplay was executed aptly. Music hounded the situations perfectly and leaves an impression while the exceptional cinematography captured the most sensitive and grim situations in a remarkable manner. Editing was also crisp except at few places. The art department and costumes were perfect match. Deepti Naval came out with a dazzling performance and so was the young boy Samad. Tisca Chopra was effective, Sanjay Suri was apt, Raghubir Yadav was remarkable. The real show stealers in this were Naseeruddin Shah who came up with an astounding performance, Shahana who will remain in the hearts for quite a while, Paresh Rawal who has depicted the deceitful role in a splendid manner. The others did a valuable contribution.
Firaaq Filem Review
The film is truly a grim reality of what happened during the riots and portrays a harsh side of life in a captivating manner. Though there are different tracks in the movie, they were brought together in an orderly fashion and showed the various angles in which it can be perceived. Both the first and second half of the movie focuses on the characters who have their own place but then at the end of it all, there are many questions that the audience has to handle by themselves. The film is surely not for the fun loving and entertainment oriented audience. This is more for the serious and off beat looking movie buffs.

Bharatstudent Verdict: Gripping and thought provoking!! For those who love serious cinema and offbeat genres.
