Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal Bollywood Movie Review

Speaking about the film world and the sports world nexus, here comes another flick which will take you down the memory lane of 'Lagaan' or 'Chak De' and still passes off to be a watchable flick. 'Goal' is the story of an underdog football club in the UK, Southall United which is in its last breath having no coach or sponsor or nothing at all. With the town council sending an eviction notice to the club and intimation of a proposed shopping mall at the place. In comes Shaan (Arshad Warsi) who takes up the Herculean task of reviving things and he teams up with Tony Singh (Boman Irani) a former player with less respect and becomes the coach. On the other side, there is Sunny (John Abraham), a very talented player whose only dream is to play for the English Football Team but then this does not happen due to the fact that he is Asian. Also, both Sunny and Shaan have a cold war between them and with Romana (Bipasha Basu), Shaan's cousin in love with Sunny things get more complicated. However, with Tony convincing Sunny to join the team and after a series of initial heat, all of them get together and how the team gets together to clinch a thrilling win forms the rest of the story. There is a dark side in the film with the council representative Johnny Bakshi (Dalip Tahil) concerned with the club's progress and how he lures Sunny to get him away from the team.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal Hindi Cinema Review

Vivek Agnihotri has done a professional job at presenting the film. The main theme being Football which is not a very sought after sport in India, Vivek has actually got the audience glued to their seat. The initial half starts off on a very slow note and has its own ups and downs but the real fever picks up just before the interval with the Manchester United stadium scene which sets up the expectation in the audience. The second half has its flavor with the tussle between John and Arshad and the peppy romance between Bipasha and John. The money's worth is actually in the final 20 minutes of the film which really brings out the patriotic fervor and the hair raising scenes gives you a thrilling rollercoaster ride. Cinematography is brilliant. There are only two songs in this worth hearing but the mujra 'Billo' did not quite suit the theme. The title song is decent. John Abraham has revolutionized his image with his role and has given an exemplary performance both as an actor and as a footballer; Arshad and Boman need no description as their acting has been par excellence. Bipasha played the love angle though not much of length but it had its own merits. The remaining cast justified their performances.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal Filem Review

Though the movie is about sport and patriotism, the elegant touch towards football and a subtle message of racism that still exists in parts of the western world have been conveyed very well. Though the initial hour gets you to a crossroad wondering what next, the flaws are covered with the enthralling climax and some really good performances by the cast. The technical side of the movie has been in sync with the frontline team with good camerawork, stylish presentation and nice music.

Bharatstudent Verdict: Sports freaks and Patriots, worth a watch!! An interesting entertainer for those with adrenaline.
