Chandni Chowk To China Bollywood Movie Review

A good plot made messy, the story begins on the backdrop of Delhi and more specifically Chandni Chowk and on the roadside is a food stall that has a chef in the kitchen, his name is Siddu Sharma (Akshay) who in truth is a meek cook but dreams big of a flamboyant lifestyle, wealth and women. For this, he thinks approaching the palmists, tarot readers would do the trick and they would reveal his future. Siddu's father Dada (Mithun) is a more practical man trying to infuse wisdom but in vain. But then, the story takes a turn when two Chinese appear from nowhere and begin to claim that Siddu happens to be a legendary warrior of China. There is a translator chopsticks (Ranvir) who happens to be a conman but then he manages to lure Siddu to China promising him a bed of roses and a hunky dory life. They are accompanied by Ms TSM (Deepika) who has a personal reason to go to China. Siddu gets the shock of his life when he is actually taken to a village that is being mauled by the evil ganglord Hojo (Gordon Liu) and this bad man hits the raw nerve when he kills Dada in front of the entire village and makes Siddu a clown. Enraged by this, Siddu decides to wreak revenge and for this, he takes the help of a master to learn the best of kungfu. The rest of the story is predictable.

Chandni Chowk To China Hindi Cinema Review

The director came out with a good thought and plot but by the time he brought it to screen, it became a mess. The script was written shoddily, there was no story, the screenplay was executed miserably. Dialogues were stale, music was just about okay despite the huge presence, cinematography was a major letdown, editing could have been a lot better, the locations were good but not well taken, costumes were alright. Akshay Kumar did his best to save the film but then his character was so weakly etched that he had no choice but to sit with the funeral, Deepika is a pack of good looks and acting was unimpressive, Ranvir was alright, Roger Yuan was matured, the saving grace of this movie is Gordon Liu who came up with a brilliant and masterly performance and fitted the bill very well. The others need no mention here.

Chandni Chowk To China Filem Review

The story could have been far better had the writers actually looked at the content than just the hype and presentation. Even the director fell flat on his job and there was not really a momentum gaining despite the marathon two hour forty five minutes length. While the first half goes about with immature and dull comedy sessions with an unconvincing romance, the second half was on the action front but the hype nowhere matched the stunts, they were below the standard. The major culprit for this is the direction and the script. The film will sink in no time but it might just make some money due to the star presence and pre release hype, that's all.

Bharatstudent Verdict:
Disappointing and boring.
