Volkswagen Jetta TSI

With petro prices touching the sky, you might be finding this unusual but here is the new Volkswagen Jetta TSI being branded as the rare luxury sedan. Technically, TSI means Turbocharged Stratified Injection. The engine is 1390cc and it packs a power of 120 horses and can reach a peak of 5000 rpm. The maximum potential is between 1500 to 4000 rpm and TSI puts down 200 NM torque.
 
The vehicle can touch 120 km/hour without any stress and it is heard that the mileage touches around 14.7 kmpl under ideal conditions. Due to the TSI engine, there is a weight reduction in the vehicle and the TSI would be available only in the Comfortline and Trendline variants when it touches the roads. However, the TSI feels a bit loose on the front and the steering feedback is not great.
 
The audio system is the regular buttoned one and it is provided with a card slot. In comparison with the TDI version, TSI has compromised on the gadgets to get a better price. Therefore, it is being priced at Rs 14.5 lakhs ex-showroom in Delhi. The engine capacity is around 1.3 liter and the only USP of this car seems to be the fuel efficiency aspect using the TSI tag. But here is the challenge.
 
A much better quality and version is being offered in Skoda Laura which costs Rs 14 lakhs and comes with a 1.8 TSI engine developing 250 Nm of torque and 160 PS of power. That way, Jetta TSI may not be able to compete with its contemporaries but if the takers are keen on the Volkswagen brand and don’t really bother about the fuel efficiency then this could be the best bet.
