In-line Skating
In-line Skating is a recreational sport which has become popular in the recent years and is practiced internationally. The in-line skates are designed to maintain good speed and better controllability. These skates consist of 2-5 polyurethane wheels which are fixed in a single line. The In-line Skating can be practiced on the race tracks, parks, off-road and urban areas. These skates can be bought at a lower price and anybody can try the In-line skating experience at their leisure. Performing this sport is a great way to get into shape without gaining weight on joints and it gives the same experience while performing the cardiovascular activities such as aerobics and running.
Though the In-line Skating is easy to perform people generally get panic and nervous as they see or hear people often getting injured. To prevent these kinds of injuries and bad experiences it is important to follow some easy and proper steps. Before buying the pair of In-line skate shoes it is always better to rent a pair and try them for few days. Once got used to the In-line skating, it is advised to buy a good pair, start and enjoy the experience of skating.
The In-line skating for beginners is always recommended to practice on grass or carpet before getting into the tracks or on roads. This practice helps to balance and gives a comfortable skating experience. Once the proper balancing and confidence in skating is achieved then getting into race tracks, pavements or roads is recommended. There are professional trainers and instructors who provide tips and techniques to skate on the tracks and pavements.
While skating, stand on the feet side by side about 4 - 6 inches aside. The arms should always be slightly in front of the body just to prevent the balance out and from falling. The knees should be slightly bent and the body weight should be evenly distributed on both the legs. Most of the beginners try to lock their knees and stand on their heels which make it a bit difficult to maintain good balance. Once proper balancing is achieved with a good speed the next important step is to learn how to stop. Generally, these skates have a braking mechanism attached on the heels of each skate. The main idea is to slowly transfer the weight from one of the legs to the heel of the skate, then the brake pad rubs against the pavement and it gradually slows the movement and stops. For an immediate stop, press or pressure the brake fast.
The best places to start for the beginners are in tennis & basketball courts, small streets, pavements and smooth surface areas. Once a total balance and control on the In-line skating is achieved then slowly start on the curvy & slope roads, rolling down hills and master the skating.
For In-line skating, it is always advised to wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads for protection and safety. The wrist guards are as important as they act as the first point of contact when falling down. The helmet prevents from serious head injuries or collisions. The knee and elbow pads are advised for the beginners at their early stages of In-line skating. Skating for at least half an hour to one hour thrice a week will help in getting a shape, staying fit and healthy……
